Lester Young was the most influential jazz artist after Louis Armstrong and before Charlie Parker. Lester's first recorded solos on "Shoe Shine Boy" and "Oh, Lady Be Good" sent shockwaves through the jazz world of 1936. He was a tenor saxophonist with a light and buoyant tone, playing hopscotch with bar lines and beat in solos that power along without melodrama. These 85 tracks tell the story of one of jazz's great story-tellers.
